TRAIL WORK
At our GBT project sites you will encounter the following types of physical work

  • cross-country hikes with your own backpack, as well as with all our trail-building tools, equipment, and food for meals (these hikes can be up to 10km in length—unless there is a way to transport everyone by boat or bus to our project work site)
  • the project work site may also be up to 3km away from our overnight camp
  • in building our trails you may find yourself working with a number of heavier tools, such as picks and shovels, or hand saws and branch trimmers
  • at times, when it is necessary, you may be asked to remove or carry heavier rocks or logs, some of which may be done to build bridges or other structures along the trail; this heavy work will be done under the careful supervision of our GBT specialists; in addition, we may ask you to help us in any number of related projects, such as collecting rubbish along the trail, planting trees, restoring certain sites, or installing various wooden signs along the trail
