Test path

Summer projects

Long-term goal of the project

A test trail leads to the plateau of the Holy Nose Peninsula, from where a picturesque view of the Barguzinsky and Chivyrkuisky Bays opens. At the moment, the trail is a steep climb.
The goal is to create a more convenient route for visitors with an average level of training, which will contribute to the development of educational tourism.

Preliminary scope of work: Volunteers have to continue the construction of the trail (serpentine site). This includes clearing the corridor, excavating the soil, and building structures.

There is always a team leader in the group - the team leader who organizes the work, and a translator that provides communication between the participants.

Please note that this project is one of the most difficult physically. The distance from the camp to the place of work is 5 km one way, part of this path is climbing uphill.
Dates
July 3-16, 2019 (14 days)
Location
Russia, Republic of Buryatia, Transbaikal National Park, Holy Nose Peninsula
Project languages
Russian English
Accommodation and meals
Volunteers live in a stationary campground on the coast of the Barguzinsky Gulf of the Svyatoy Nos Peninsula. According to the duty schedule established by the team leader, the participants set up the camp and prepare food at the stake for the whole group. You can familiarize yourself with a sample menu.

Due to the remoteness of the place of work from the camp and in order to save the time of volunteers, instead of a full lunch, a dense snack on the trail is possible (cold camp lunch with thermoses).

Depending on the weather and the condition of the group, the team leader has the right to change the daily routine. The average working day is 6 hours with a lunch break.

BBT buys products for two weeks, and also provides the necessary group equipment, tools, tents (one tent for two).

Please note that the project will not have a hot shower, but you can boil water and wash or swim in Lake Baikal.

Weekends and Loads on the project

With good physical abilities, the group plans to climb the plateau of the Holy Nose. At the end of the project, in case of favorable weather conditions, it is possible to visit the seal rookery on the Ushkany Islands or the thermal springs of Zmeyevaya Bay.

Moving along the trail at a distance of 5 km one way, working with tools (shovels, picks, etc.), dragging logs, stones and other types of physical activity. Throughout the project, you will need to participate in the improvement of the camp.

The volume of your backpack should be at least 70 liters. In connection with the peculiarities of the local climate, it is necessary to take a jacket from rain and wind, a warm sweater and trousers. Also pay attention to shoes - they should be comfortable, light and non-slip.

We strongly advise you to familiarize yourself with the list of necessary equipment, information on tick-borne safety, as well as general information for BBT volunteers.
