Location
Russia, Republic of Buryatia, Baikal Reserve, Osinovka River Valley
Project languages

Accommodation and meals
Volunteers set up a stationary campground in a cozy meadow on the banks of the Osinovka mountain river. Video sketch about nature. Please note that you will need to carry your belongings, camp equipment and food to the project site (2 km). According to the duty schedule established by the team leader, the participants set up the camp and prepare food at the stake for the whole group. You can familiarize yourself with a sample menu.

BBT purchases products for the entire project, and also provides the necessary group equipment, tools, tents (one tent for two).

The project will not have a hot shower, but you can boil water and wash or refresh yourself in the invigorating waters of a mountain river.

This project cannot be fully called a project on Baikal, as a stationary volunteer camp is located several kilometers from the coast. But this is more an advantage than a disadvantage. The camp is located on the banks of the river in a cozy place, sheltered from the Baikal winds.

Weekends and Loads on the project

Weekends: If weather permits, then on the day off in the middle of the project the group will go hiking in the mountains. 2 days before the end of the project, the volunteers will go to the village of Tankhoi, where they will go on excursions to the Museum of Nature of the Baikal Reserve, as well as visit the interactive exhibitions of the Baikal Reserve visit center. In addition, project participants will have the opportunity to walk to Lake Baikal and take a steam bath.

Project loads: Daily movement along the trail, working with tools (shovels, picks, etc.), dragging stones and other types of physical activity. You will need to carry your things, equipment and food to the camp site (2 km). Also throughout the project you will need to participate in the improvement of the camp.

Please note that the volume of your backpack should be at least 70 liters. In connection with the peculiarities of the local climate, you need to take a warm jacket, raincoat, sweater and pants. Also pay attention to shoes - on this project you will need rubber boots.

We strongly advise you to familiarize yourself with the list of necessary equipment, information on tick-borne safety, as well as general information for BBT volunteers.

Directions

The project began at the city of Irkutsk. Participants meet on July 12 at 9 a.m. at the BBT hostel, so you need to arrive in the city either the day before the start of the project, or early in the morning on the day the project starts. From Irkutsk, in a minibus ordered in advance, the group leaves for the village of Tankhoi. The distance from Irkutsk to Tankhoi is about 230 km, travel time is about 4 hours.

The village of Tankhoy was one of the most important points of water (and in winter - ice) communication before the construction of the Circum-Baikal Railway. It is in Tankhoe that the office of the Baikal Reserve is located.

On the day of the end of the project, the group from Tankhoy returns by bus to Irkutsk.

  • Water transfer Big Cats - Irkutsk
  • Accommodation in a hostel in Irkutsk on the last day of the project
